About Us

The Fire Marshal’s Office is staffed by a part time Fire Marshal, a part time Deputy Fire Marshal, and a part time Administrative Assistant. The Fire Marshal’s office is located in the Town Hall and is responsible for the enforcement of all applicable State Fire Codes and Regulations and other duties as set forth in the Connecticut General Statutes, as well as other legislation enacted by the Town. Fire prevention is the primary objective of the Fire Marshal, which is promoted through inspections of properties and activities regulated by the Connecticut Fire Safety Code, the Connecticut Fire Prevention Code, the administration of the permit process for activities subject to those permits, and by providing public fire education and guidance. Connecticut Statutes require that the Fire Marshal investigate every fire or explosion within the jurisdiction, for determination of the cause and origin.  The storage, transportation and use of hazardous materials/explosives are under the authority of the Fire Marshal, as well as the administration of Connecticut Department of Environmental open burning regulations, as the Open Burning Official.

Our mission

To continue safeguarding the town of East Hampton by working closely with residents and businesses to ensure the compliance with the Connecticut Fire Safety Code, Connecticut Fire Prevention Code and any/all regulations set forth by the State of Connecticut. This will be achieved through inspections, enforcement of code, education, and performing plan reviews.  

Additional Duties

  • Duties imposed by the Connecticut General Statues including but not limited to:
  • Inspect all buildings and facilities of public service, business, assembly, education, health care, multi-family housing and other occupancies regulated by the Connecticut State Fire Safety Code.
  • Issue permits for the use, transportation and storage of explosives in compliance with State Explosives Regulations.
  • Inspect all tents and portable structures for compliance with the Connecticut Fire Safety Regulations.
  • Conduct review of plans and specifications for various occupancies and facilities being proposed within the town for compliance with the Connecticut Fire Safety Regulations.
  • Attend schools and seminars to keep abreast of the codes, regulations and new technology.
  • Inspect and enforce the Connecticut regulations concerning storage, use and transportation of liquefied petroleum gas and liquefied natural gas
  • Inspect and supervise all fireworks and special effects displays for compliance with applicable State legislation
  • Site inspections for firework and special effects displays.
  • Provide safety education to the general public.
