Ordinance Establishing an Economic Development Commission (Revised)

Legal Notice #12.08

SECTION 1:      There shall be an Economic Development Commission of the Town of East Hampton, which shall consist of seven electors of the Town to be appointed by the Town Manager for a term of four years.

SECTION 2:      The Town Manager shall have the right and power to remove any member for cause. Vacancies arising from any circumstances shall be filled by the Town Manager for the unexpired portion of the term vacated.

SECTION 3:      The members of the Commission shall serve without compensation, but shall be reimbursed for their necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties.

SECTION 4:      The Commission shall be empowered to recommend to the Town Manager the appointment of employees necessary for the discharge of its duties, and shall have any and all other rights, powers, duties and obligations arising under Section 7–136 of the General Statutes, as the same may be amended.

SECTION 5:      The Commission shall elect a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and any other officers deemed necessary, and shall have the power to make rules and regulations for the transaction of its business. The Commission shall hold meetings at a fixed and regular time and place, and all such meetings, whether regular, adjourned or special, shall be held at an accessible place, and shall be open to the public.

SECTION 6:      The Commission shall annually prepare and transmit to the Town Council a report of its activities and its recommendations for improving economic conditions and development, and an itemized account of all receipts and disbursements from the preceding year.

SECTION 7:      All incumbent members of the existing commission shall continue to serve out their terms at the time of this Ordinance revision.

This revised ordinance shall take effect 20 days after publication.
