Types of Taxes Collected and Billing Cycles

Real Estate Tax

Real Estate taxes are due and payable in two installments. The first installment is due July 1, 2023 and delinquent after August 1, 2023. The second installment is due January 1, 2024 and delinquent after February 1, 2024. A tax bill less than $100.00 is paid in one installment due on July 1, 2023. If you received a real estate tax bill that is supposed to be paid from an escrow account by your mortgage company, please call your escrow agent or mortgage company immediately. They must in turn notify the Collector of Revenue that they are responsible for this payment and arrange to have your future real estate tax bills sent to them. If you received a tax bill for real estate property that you no longer own, please notify the Collector of Revenue immediately at taxcollector@easthamptonct.gov

Motor Vehicle Tax

Motor Vehicle taxes are due and payable in one installment on July 1, 2023 and delinquent after August 1, 2023. These taxes include vehicles that were registered for a full year, during the tax period of October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023. Supplemental Motor Vehicle taxes are due and payable on January 1, 2024 and delinquent after February 1, 2024. These taxes include vehicles that were registered between October 2, 2022 and July 31, 2023. This would also include the registration of a new vehicle or if a current registration lapsed for any reason. If you want to change your mailing address for motor vehicle tax bills, you must do so with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Failure to make all necessary changes will cause the misinformation to carry forward on future motor vehicle tax bills.

Personal Property Tax

Personal Property taxes are due and payable in two installments. The first installment is due July 1, 2023 and delinquent after August 1, 2023. The second installment is due January 1, 2024 and delinquent after February 1, 2024. A tax bill less than $100.00 is paid in one installment due on July 1, 2023. Personal Property taxes are primarily for the furniture, fixtures, equipment in business as well as unregistered motor vehicles in the Town of East Hampton. Personal property taxes are not pro-rated if a business closes or is sold. The tax is based on what was assessed on October 1, 2022.
