Education matters here. There are approximately 2,000 students in our public education system at 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and a 4-year high school. East Hampton High School was named as one of Connecticut’s “Best High Schools” in 2013 rankings by U.S. News & World Report. Our high school ranked 32nd out of nearly 200 high schools in our state and earned a Silver Award, ranking as a “Best High School” nationally. Our community supported School District accomplishments by approving a $52M dollar high school renovation project in June 2013.
East Hampton embraces fiscal responsibility as a day-to-day process. In 2013, Standard & Poor's, one of three national bond rating agencies, upped the town's rating from AA to AA+ following an intensive review of the town's finances. Our Town has for two consecutive years been awarded The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
Town employees are also committed to serving the citizens of East Hampton to ensure that our Town provides excellent services valued by people of all ages. In this spirit, Town staff is currently participating in an organizational review aimed at ensuring efficiencies in our operations, open communication, and collaboration with my office, each other, and the public.
