Road Sand and Salt Application

The Public Works Department has expanded the use of treated salt to three plow routes around the lake. The treated salt can be applied prior to the storms and it functions as a bond breaker preventing ice from adhering to the roadway surface. However there will be exceptions as was the case this past weekend where we experienced heavy rains with a quick changeover to freezing rain. The Department applied a sand salt mix to provide traction to the ice that had already formed on the roadway surface.
