East Hampton Lake Pocotopaug Commission

Members of the Lake Pocotopaug Commission are appointed.
Term: 2, 3 or 4 years
Term ends on on December 31

Mission

The goal of the Lake Pocotopaug Commission is to provide a Lake and Watershed Management Plan that protects the environmental aspects of the Lake ecosystem and watershed area, improves water quality, and ensures appropriate ongoing maintenance and monitoring.

The commission was established in June of 2006 by ordinance of the Town Council and formed in October, when the first organizational and regular meetings were held. During the organizational meeting on October 5, 2006, town councilman, Scott Minnick, announced a $50,000 state grant to be used for lake and watershed needs.

At the first regular meeting of the commission, on October 19, 2006, commission chairman, Robert Hart, opened the meeting with an introductory welcoming statement that stressed the importance of the community-wide effort needed to accomplish the commission’s goals.

Dennis Griswold, chairman of the local "Friends of Lake Pocotopaug" organization announced a matching $50,000 pledge that when combined with the state grant totals $100,000 of initial funding for the community’s lake improvement needs. A joint press release went out to local newspapers announcing the matching pledge and describing the joint relationship established between the new commission and Friends of Lake Pocotopaug.

The East Hampton Lake Pocotopaug Commission meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall. Chairman Hart encourages all interested parties to attend to offer ideas and comments and to jointly work toward lasting solutions to improve Lake Pocotopaug.
