ADDITIONAL VETERANS EXEMPTIONS
MOTOR VEHICLE EXEMPTION FOR ACTIVE MEMBERS
OF US ARMED FORCES
Elderly and 100% Disabled Tax Relief Program - Starting February 1st, 2017 the Assessor’s Office will be scheduling appointments for residents to complete the application for the Elderly and 100% Disabled Tax Relief Program. The application period starts February 1, 2017 and ends on May 15, 2017. Those homeowners who are at least age 65 (by December 31, 2015), OR totally disabled, whose total maximum income for the 2016 calendar year, including Social Security is $35,200, if single/unmarried or $42,900, if married, are encouraged to apply.
This program is available for tax relief of Real Estate tax on the 2016 Grand List.
Additional Veteran’s Exemptions are also available for those who are Veterans and whose income falls within the State limits. The deadline for filing an application with the Assessor for the Veteran’s program is October 1, 2017. The filing period begins February 1st.
Elderly & Disabled Tax Relief Program applicants should apply for their Additional Veterans exemption at the same time. The filing for the Additional Veteran’s exemption will be applicable to property on the October 1, 2017 Grand List.
Connecticut Armed Service Members Motor Vehicle Exemption - Applications are available for exemption of one motor vehicle for East Hampton residents who are active members of the United States Armed Forces. Armed Forces are defined as “US Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Air Force and any reserve component thereof including the National Guard.” To receive the exemption, an application must be filed annually. The deadline to file is December 31, 2017.
